Must-Dos in Memphis! | Memphis Family Photographer
Hello! I am so excited to share this with you!
I have prepared a short list of must-dos around Memphis. I am a born and raised Memphian and take pride in what our city has to offer! Sometimes we go on day to day and forget about the fun places and delicious food spots all over our city. I hope that you will learn about a new place from this list or that you are reminded of a fun spot.
Shelby Farms is one of the most fun places in Memphis! With 4,500 acres, there is something there for everyone. They have tons of walking trails, bike rentals and bike paths, fields for various games, picnic tables for an easy lunch spot or an event, a lovely restaurant and an event center, paddle boating, horseback riding, a Go Ape ropes course, and the best playground in the city!
Fluffy. Doughy. Sweet. Delicious. Gibson's Donuts are amazing! Gibson's has been around for a long, long time and is known for their tasty donuts as well as their hospitality and generosity with St. Jude and various charities. They're open 24 hours, so whether you need a late night treat, a sugary snack while you're studying, or breakfast with the kiddos, Gibson's is always open and always delicious. My favorites are the the cruller, blueberry, and chocolate sprinkle. But, seriously, you can't go wrong here!
The FedEx Forum is a super fun place to go downtown! Whether you're attending a concert or cheering on the Memphis Grizzlies, you're bound the have a great time. We've even been to a Marvel Live show there and it was a blast! I highly recommend finding an event for your family there! You can't go wrong cheering for the Grizzlies.
Two words: Belly Acres. Yum! Located in a super fun spot, Overton Square, Belly Acres provides a fun atmosphere while serving awesome food. They're known for the fact that they provide farm-to-table fresh food! They have burgers which range in specialty with delectable ingredients as well as tasty salads that are not wimpy! The restaurant is decorated like an awesome, modern, colorful farm scene, complete with a tractor! They also have a great patio outside that's fun on a Spring day. The kids' meals are served on a frisbee that they are able to take home. Oh, and as you can see here, they also have corn hole outside!
A fun place to go year-round is Putt-Putt! There, you can play putt-putt golf, of course, but you can also indulge in arcade games, bumper boats, baseball in a batting cage, and go-karts! Inside, they have slushies and food like pizza and hot dogs. Putt-Putt always makes for a fun afternoon with the kids or even a date night out! I have fond memories from spending my childhood there, and I am so grateful that Jon and I now take our son there, too!
I can't say enough about Muddy's Bake Shop. Oh my goodness! They are the BEST cupcakes in the whole wide world. Whether you're enjoying a girls night out, you're on a date, or you'd like to treat the kiddos, Muddy's is the perfect place. They have coffee and water, cakes, pies, and cookies, and seriously the best, fluffy, tasty, homemade cupcakes. In addition to their first location in East Memphis, they also have a shop in midtown called Muddy's Grindhouse. They offer the same, but in a bigger establishment so it's a perfect spot to grab a coffee and a treat and talk with a friend or work on homework. If you haven't been to Muddy's, you need to go!
Elmwood Cemetery has been a special place in Memphis since the 1970s! There are over 75,000 people buried there, including mayors, governors, civil rights leaders, and folks of all kind. The ground are beautiful and there is such a rich, deep history there. I highly recommend putting on your walking shoes and going there to learn more about this great, historical part of our city!
I must admit, I had never been there before Jon took me during a fun, Memphis-themed day-date a few years ago! We were fascinated by the historical landmarks there, the number of gravestones, and the different types of markings that represent many years.
They even have tours available as well as picnic tables, so pack a lunch and enjoy tales that date back for many decades!
The Pink Palace holds a special place in my heart. I spent many afternoons here as a child and I always enjoyed it. At the Pink Palace, you can enjoy their Planetarium, Imax theater, and their permanent exhibits about the history of the Mid-South. They also feature various exhibits throughout the year and right now, their main attraction is called Extreme Deep: Mission to the Abyss Exhibit! My family loves the Pink Palace and I hope that you and yours will go and enjoy it as well. The Imax theater is amazing and their exhibits are top-notch!
